What’s On in April at Pensthorpe

Pensthorpe, the 700-acre nature reserve in North Norfolk, offers a variety of activities and workshops to brighten up your April.

April starts with a cracking Easter-themed trail – The Giant Egg Hunt. Perfect for all the family, grab a trail map from the admission desk and see if you can spot the 4-foot-tall eggs around the reserve. All the eggs have been made by Pensthorpe’s team and volunteers. The trail runs up until the end of the Easter school holidays on 14th April 2024. The trail is part of general admission tickets, which can be purchased online or on the day. Alternatively, Pensthorpe Members can access the Giant Egg Trail for free as part of their membership benefits.

1 Day Photography Course

If you’re a budding photographer, you can join Norfolk-born wildlife photographer and cameraman Josh Jaggard, who most recently worked on David Attenborough’s ‘Wild Isles’, for a 6-hour photography workshop at Pensthorpe. Start the day with some photography basics before heading out onto the reserve to capture some wildlife shots. The workshop is on Saturday, 20th April. Spaces are limited, so make sure you book online to avoid disappointment.

Discovery Bird Calls and Songs

Don’t worry if you prefer listening to birds rather than taking photos of them. You can join our Reserve Team on Friday, 26th April, to help understand and identify bird calls and songs. The morning session will be held in our Function Room, learning about why birds sing and discussing the best techniques to identify and remember bird songs and calls. After a buffet lunch, you will head out onto the reserve to put the theory into practice while listening to some of the birds found on-site. It’s the perfect event for those looking to get started at understanding bird calls, but all are welcome.

Finally, this one is for the early risers on Sunday, 28th April; you can witness a beautiful sunrise across the Pensthorpe lakes and catch the sweet songs of our breeding birds. Starting at 5 am, you can get out and about on the Reserve before anyone else while nature is still waking up, taking in the sound of the early dawn chorus. The event ends at 8 am, and there is an option to stay on for breakfast in the courtyard café for an additional fee.
